Getting there

Today they layed the top floor. Looks more like a home now. We are moving in at the end of november.

There was a lot of work done together with my parents (they are a force of nature). We got rid of the wall making it one room. Got rid of all the pink painted boards covering glass in the doors and the railings by the stairs. And painted almost everything.

Decision time (again)

The creative expressions of political parties are old fashioned, conformative, and dull. By wanting to keep their members happy and at the same time trying to become as big as possible they lose their edge. The political game has a lot of similarities with the commercial one. Only the currency is different: votes instead of money.

It’s going to be hard to decide who to vote for. If the parties as a whole don’t show a face I will look for one and vote for him or her, regardless of political colour (although something to the left would be nice).

Autumn

Summer transcended to Autumn on 06h03 starting with a nice warm day and some raindrops.

In the early morning (before eight) I shot some video in the Oosterpark in Amsterdam. To memorise the day that (the center of) the Sun is directly above the equator and it spends an equal amount of time above and below the horizon everywhere on our planet called Earth.

It’s a good thing

… that people tend to seize their window of opportunity. Most people don’t or don’t even get one. It requires determination, perseverance, courage]] and quite a big dose of luck.

I will never get used to the fact that people are going through the rubbish of others. But they recognise what others missed, finding opportunity. And that’s a good thing.

I know my window of opportunity is now. Hope I’ll be able to seize it.

Historic Haarlem

I was overwhelmed by the history of Haarlem when I walked back to the trainstation after visiting Luc. Especially the light of the evening sun made me fantasise about paradise.

Seeing a homeless person made me yet again aware of this fragile balance and how easy it is to fail at dancing the dance called society your whole life without missing a beat.

Against all odds

Loved seeing it grow in the past months or so.

Just outside the window of my studio. It lives on the 3rd floor of the kraijenhoff building. It has no protection at all from stormy winds or pouring rain and no real soil to hold on to.

But now it blossoms and soon it will spread it seeds. I’m impressed.

Permanent Breakfast

I was going to film a happening called Permanent Breakfast on het Leidse Plein in Amsterdam for De Balie Live! (live internet stream) but it’s raining so they found a new spot to do it next to De Balie.

This photo was taken before it started and at the end all seats were taken together with a lot of food for mind and body.

Since 1996 the Austrian Artist Friedemann Derschmidt is organizing permanent breakfasts in the public space. The initiative is critical about the devaluation of public space and wants to make people aware of the collective experience of our public space.

This happening was organised by De Balie to start of the cultural season within the festival “Het publieke verlangen“.

The stream will be available on demand this coming week.
