De gebroken levens door oorlog

Een zeer confronterende (data gedreven) animatie over de tweede wereldoorlog en hoeveel mensen deze oorlog het leven heeft gekost en hoe dit in verhouding staat met andere oorlogen in het verre en nabije verleden.

De getallen zijn onvoorstelbaar en dan zijn nog niet eens de mensen meegeteld die er niet aan gestorven zijn maar onbegrijpelijk leed is aangedaan.

Rationeel begrijp ik hoe oorlogen ontstaan emotioneel is het een onmogelijk fenomeen binnen ons menszijn. Wat een bizarre diersoort zijn we toch.

Everyday, we look at dozens of websites. The structure of these websites is defined in HTML, the lingua franca for publishing information on the web. Your browser’s job is to render the HTML according to the specs (most of the time, at least). You can look at the code behind any website by selecting the “View source” tab somewhere in your browser’s menu.
HTML consists of so-called tags, like the A tag for links, IMG tag for images and so on. Since tags are nested in other tags, they are arranged in a hierarchical manner, and that hierarchy can be represented as a graph. I’ve written a little app that visualizes such a graph.

About 3 years ago I came up with this idea. My idea’s and my knowledge of internet has grown. And the idea from then still stands tall. In short: All the things I buy plus the where and when tells a story about me. Would it be possible to really know me with all that data? I already have years of reciepts to share (on paper).
