Something profound is changing our concept of trust, says Rachel Botsman. While we used to place our trust in institutions like governments and banks, today we increasingly rely on others, often strangers, on platforms like Airbnb and Uber and through technologies like the blockchain. This new era of trust could bring with it a more transparent, inclusive and accountable society — if we get it right. Who do you trust?

Humanity in Action heeft samen met Annegriet Wietsma een film gemaakt over hoe het een individu omgaat in een extreme (sociale) context. Denk aan een oorlog of een ongeluk. Ben je een bijstander? Help je juist mensen? Neem je de leiding? Kun je de moed opbrengen om in actie te komen?

Wat ik uit de film haal is dat het moeilijk te voorspellen is wat je doet. Pas op moment dat zo’n situatie zich voordoet kom je erachter. En gelukkig staat er bijna altijd iemand op die mensen die eerst nog afwachtend zijn tot actie te bewegen.

Want de wil om er voor elkaar te zijn is er eigenlijk altijd wel maar vaak is de schok erg groot en/of weten mensen op dat moment niet hoe te helpen.

Play engineer Floris Koot talks about a gentle revolution in education: “The overview effect of astronauts teaches us we are part of one and the same system. We should see education from a broader and bounderyless perspective. From that perspective measurability is a war-crime! Let’s look each other in the eye and take away the critical measured view. Just listen to what wants to be born.”

He believes ‘we’ only win when everyone wins. Globally many people and organizations seek to work so that the whole will flourish through their activity.
